I actually really, really like Strands. It's the type of game where: I saw it and once I grokked the rules my first thought was: man I wish I had thought of this. I build daily word games myself (Freestyle - a daily rhyming game at https://playfreestyle.co) and the 'daily habit' design is its own rabbit hole. Curious if you've seen rhyming mechanics work differently than the pattern-matching stuff NYT leans on.

Yes I have played. It's my favorite NYT game. Wouldn't miss it - told all my friends, who love it too.
